Good news everyone! Billy Packer is leaving CBS and won't be involved in the NCAA Men's Final Four for the first time in 34 years!
This is truly wondrous stuff, I couldn't be happier. Because, and I'm not sure how many of you are aware of this, Billy Packer is a moron.
Maybe Packer was the man 34 years ago (I wasn't there for that), but he's nothing more than a blubbering Dick Vitale wannabe (a scary thought) now. He makes dumb calls, he plays favorites, he's mildly homophobic, and he really just kinda is terrible at his job. Only a few times have I turned off the sound of a sporting event. Packer is one of the only two people I've ever done it to more than once (Tim McCarver is the other).
While his replacement, Clark Kellogg, does not exactly inspire confidence, nobody is worse than Packer.
