Daily Daryle Ward

Now I don't want to say that the Cubbies are in first place and blazing a trail to the playoffs because of any one player because baseball is a team effort. Geovany Soto has been a revelation behind the dish and likely will be the NL ROY. Mark DeRosa and Ryan Theriot have both played above and beyond reasonable expectations. Jim Edmonds has found new life in the outfield and Kosuke Fukudome has been as good as advertised in his first season in the US. In addition, the pitching rotation has stayed productive and healthy and the acquisitions of Rich Harden and Chad Gaudin have been nothing short of great.

But when it comes down to it, there can only be one man to attribute the Cubs' success to. That man: Daryle Ward.

Mighty Daryle had a pinch-hit game-winning 3-run homerun last night versus the Marlins that could only be described as titanic (seriously, he killed that pitch).

So here's to you Daryle. Proving that left-handed fatties who can mash a ball every now and then deserve a place in baseball too.
